
Amity Technology, Wahpeton, N.D., was recognized for his second AE50 award from the from The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers for its Active Height Control for sugarbeet scalpers. Sensors on the scalper bar adjust the defoliator to changing ground levels and beet heights. Properly setting the scalper bar results in high-quality defoliation, which maximizes storage potential of harvested beets. The AE50 awards honor the year’s most innovative designs in engineering products or systems for the food and agriculture industries.
Amity also won an AE50 award for its Precision Shank Drill, which combines the best features of the Concord Air Seeder with modern shank drill technology.
Fresh produce donations top 2.8 million pounds in North Dakota
Farmers and gardeners have donated 2.8 million pounds of fresh produce to North Dakota food pantries, soup kitchens and other charitable community programs since the North Dakota Hunger Free Project started in 2010. The 2018 growing year alone brought in more than 500,000 pounds of produce, according to Doug Goehring, North Dakota agriculture commissioner.
“Thanks to more growers, volunteers and community support, donations hit an all-time high this year,” he says.
Fessenden Co-op manager elected president
Mark Hovland, general manager at Fessenden Cooperative Association, Fessenden, N.D., was recently elected president of the North Dakota Grain Dealers Association.
Jeremy Burkhart, multicommodity and project manager at CHS-SunPrairie, Minot, N.D., was elected 1st vice president. Alex Richard, Grain manager at Maple River Grain and Agronomy, Casselton, N.D., was elected 2nd vice president.
Scott Altoff, manager at Alton Grain Terminal, Hillsboro, N.D., along with Burkhart and Hovland were re-elected to the board. Dan Mostad, general manager at Berthold Farmers Elevator, was newly elected to the board.
